Halifax Vandals coach Kevin McCallion steps aside after two seasons in charge

Halifax Vandals would like to thank Kevin McCallion for all his hard work following his decision to step down as head coach.

McCallion informed the players of his decision ahead of the 17-14 win over Bramley at weekend, with the 1st XV giving him the perfect send off.

Kev had always been due to call it a day at the end of the season, however he’s now brought forward the decision due to personal reasons.

The former Vandals hooker, who will remain a member of the club, hands over the reins in the interim to Chris Davis.

Club president CD has worked closely with Kev over the past two seasons, and will now look to provide continuity until the end of the season when the coaching situation will be reviewed.

CD will be assisted by Tony Curtis and 1st XV skipper Paul Jowett.

Chairman Neil Crossley said: “Kev has been a true Vandals stalwart throughout his rugby career and it’s been a pleasure having him back in the driving seat where he began his coaching career.

“His coaching partnership with Chris Davis over the last few years has been instrumental in motivating and bringing the lads together, particularly through the pandemic, and we’re all very grateful for that.

“We wish Kev and his family all the best and we look forward to his continuing support.”
