Halifax Vandals 2nd XV came unstuck at Bramley in a friendly after scheduled league opponents Aireborough was forced to cancel.

Niall Corley, Nathan Farnell and Ben Simms all crossed for tries - and the game was finely poised at 19-17 to the hosts at half-time.

However the hosts were able to take full advantage of their impressive bench to run out comfortable winners.

The Vandals weren’t helped by the loss of Alex Horner, who dislocated his knee in the first half and now looks set to be out for the season. The club wishes ‘Ginge’ a speedy recovery.

Corley showed great pace to run 60m for his try after a powerful forwards drive, while the pack also proved the platform for Farnell’s score as they stole a Bramley lineout and drove 20m before the ball was shipped out to the centre.

Simms then scored the pick of the Vandals’ tries as he won Tom Mellor’s box kick, dummied the full back and raced between the sticks. Mellor converted.
